150 Years Since Emancipation in Florida: The Capital City Celebrates Its History

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- The Capital City celebrates 150 years of Emancipation in the Sunshine State.

On Sunday, the Tallahassee Museum highlighted African American history spotlight the Bellevue Plantation House, Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church and the Concord Schoolhouse.

The celebration will continue all month long.

Monday (5/18) there will be an African American Heritage Preservation Network Conference at the Augustus B. Turnbull III Florida State Conference Center.

A community celebration featuring dance, song, poetry, and theatrical performances will take place Tuesday (5/19) at the Meek-Eaton Black Archives Museum.

A Civil War Grave Decorating Commemorative Service dating back to the 1880s at the Old City Cemetary, will start Wednesday's (5/20) event. The 5th Annual Emancipation and Abolitionist Ball will end the night the Turnbull Conference Center.
