VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - The city of Valdosta is encouraging families within city limits to reschedule traditional trick-or-treating activities from Oct. 31 to Nov. 1 from 6-9 p.m. to accommodate two large community events.

The city says the decision was made due to the traffic patrol necessary to make Halloween both safe and enjoyable, in addition to the extra police needed for Friday night's Winnersville Classic football game.

The city is encouraging children to walk in pairs and stay on sideways, parents to accompany kids under 12, and adults to inspect candy before their children are allowed to eat it.
