VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - The Valdosta Fire Department is preparing to host its annual Citizens' Fire Academy.
The academy runs on eight consecutive Tuesday nights, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. beginning on September 9 and lasting through October 28. Citizens must be at least 18 to enroll, and complete a background check, as well as a waiver.
Valdosta Fire Chief Freddie Broome will ask all participants for their commitments to attend all eight weeks. The program is scheduled as follows:
Week 1: Fire Department Overview
Week 2: Communication
Week 3: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Self-Containing Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), and Search and Rescue
Week 4: Vehicle Extrication
Week 5: Fire Safety and Fire Extinguishers
Week 6: CPR/First Aid
Week 7: Georgia Search and Rescue (GSAR) and Hazardous Materials (Haz-Mat)
Week 8: Final Review and Graduation
