TALLAHASSE, Fla. — A place with a new menu every day, and a name you can’t forget.
What’s on the menu today at Kool Beanz is a mystery you'll have to taste for yourself.
“We have a daily changing menu. Pretty much it’s our own take on things," Owner Keith Baxter said.
Baxter said he considers the food in his restaurant to be American Cuisine with a unique twist.
Born in the United Kingdom, Keith moved to America in his twenties.
“I’m American now," Baxter said. "I’ve lived here for forty years, so being part of this country and having theses opportunities. I would have never had that there. It’s really hard to open your own business in UK.”
Baxter said he opened Kool Beanz in 1996 after working as a chief for years across Florida.
“I love being here, and I love Tallahassee," Baxter said. "When I first moved here I wasn’t so sure, but it’s grown into me and hopefully I’ve grown into Tallahassee.”
Throughout the building you see of Thomasville Road, Baxter said he likes to give local artist a free space to show off their work.
He said this community has become his family.
"So many regular customers," Baxter said. "So many that have been coming since we’ve opened, and I got to know them on a personal level.”
Baxter said he may not know where the signature name Kool Beanz originated from, but he’s honored it's now a household name that is Totally Tallahassee.
“We’re not going anywhere," Baxter said. "I still enjoy coming to work everyday. We’re going to be here for a while.”
