TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Before you could head to your favorite streaming app to watch a movie, VHS tapes and DVD collections filled our homes.
There's a place in Tallahassee, allowing customers to travel back to that simpler time.
"Either they're like, 'Oh, this is incredible or they're like, 'what... what exactly is this?'" Owner of Cap City Video Lounge Kevin Cole said.
Cole described his display of thousands of films as a movie lover's paradise.
Cap City Video Lounge is the only video rental store left in Tallahassee.
He said opening this place was inspired by Video 21 and Turtle films, two local video rental stores he grew up with here.
"Video 21 was just an incredible place and one of the reasons I came back to Tallahassee," Cole said. " (Cap City Video Lounge) is how we pay tribute to the OG of Video Rental stores in Tallahassee Florida."
This store allows people to travel back in time, which for some means a time they never knew.
"There is like a whole generation that never had this," Cole said. "They come in, and they want to buy a DVD and I'm like 'no, no this is a rental store.' and they're like 'oh, I remember my older brother or my mom and dad told me about rental stores. I've seen them in movies.' And I'm like 'yes this a real one. You're standing in a video rental store.'"
From his vast collection of action, comedy, horror and sci-fi films, along with a one screen, 38 seat movie theater available for renting out.
Cole said he has something for everyone.
"This is a place where you can not only find inspiration, but it can come to life at Cap City Video Lounge," Cole said.
In a place that is Totally Tallahassee.
