THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL)- Dozens of people hit the streets in Thomasville for the 5th annual m-l-k humanitarian walk. The 2 mile walk through historic Thomasville promotes unity in the community, while encouraging healthier lifestyles.
The goal of the walk is to bring the community together while educating them on historic landmarks and stressing the importance of exercise.
The event coordinator told ABC27, the event brings a little bit of everybody out. "It's very exciting. We have city officials here, teachers, a lot of youth groups, a lot of AKAs have their young people here as well, as the Kappas and Deltas have children here from middle schools from the city and the county so its very exciting," said Corey King.
Participants nominated a local humanitarian, who was awarded at the end of the walk. Awards were also given for a college stipend, as well as first place walker.
An event participant said Saturday was all about community. "It's a great opportunity for me to express to my own children as Dr. King expressed so long ago. This is about being unified as a community. And I'm hoping my family my boys will embrace as much of that as we possibly can," said Danny Copeland.
