TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--The Tallahassee Police Department honored exceptional members of the community Friday afternoon for their service above and beyond the call of duty.
More than a dozen officers and citizens were given awards for their service to the community.
Officers were recognized for their handling of certain situations on the job, but everyday citizens were also honored for their commitment to keeping Tallahassee neighborhoods safe.
Officer Dave Northway explained citizen nominations. "With the recognizing of our citizens...those would be people who walked up on somebody or heard somebody in distress maybe having a heart attack and did CPR and things like that and they were able to save their lives or assist an officer with capturing a fleeing suspect."
Winners were chosen by an awards board that consists of both officers and citizens. The group meets and reviews various cases to recommend for a service award.
