THOMASVILLE, GA - All week is Summer Camp Sampler! Wednesday we showcased two in Thomas County to help kids embrace History!

Camp Dawson and Camp LPH are hosted by the Thomas County Historical Society.

The deadline to register for both camps is May 27th with Camp Dawson running from June 6th-10th and Camp LPH June 21st-23rd.

Here's some specifics provided by Thomas County Historical Society:

This year we're adding a few new twists to the perennial favorite, Time Travelers Club History Camp. Have no fear, our revamped Camp Dawson is rooted in the same activities and themes that have inspired and engaged Thomas County campers for nearly 20 years, just with a little added museum mischief and adventure. In addition to our traditional hands-on history-based activities, we want to engage our campers in new explorations of the community around us. We are embracing the elements of S.T.E.A.H.M: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, History, and Math that can be found and applied in our own backyard about our community's evolution.

Campers will progress through Thomas County history, starting with the Native Americans and work their way up to the 20th-Century using resources available here at the Museum and in our surrounding neighborhood, including the Lapham-Patterson House. We'll explore what makes Thomasville and Thomas County unique while putting ourselves in the place of past Thomasvillians. We hope that you'll join us June 6-10, 2016 for a week of adventure and discovery! Fees: $100, Members, $125 Non-Members. Includes all craft supplies, camp shirt, and snack daily.

We're also expanding our focus at what was formerly known as Victorian Thomasville Camp. Now called, Camp LPH, we will explore the time period between the 1880's when the Lapham-Patterson House was constructed, to the 1940's, nearing the end of the Patterson family's occupation of the house. This means we can dig deeper into the house, its history, and its families. Camp LPH will still culminate in the campers' construction and launch of hot air balloons to commemorate the c. 1886 launch of a hot air balloon over Thomasville. Camp LPH, June 21-23, 2016. Fees: $75, Members, $100 Non-Members. Includes all craft supplies and snack daily.
