MIDWAY, FL - It's Independence Day.

The Sunrise Crew kicked off the celebrations by giving a little bit of history behind July 4th.

July 4th has been a federal holoday sine 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day goes all the way back to the 18th Century.

Why? The American Revolution.

July 4th, 1776 is when the 13 colonies declared their independence from Great Britain.

Hence signing, "The Declaration of Independence."

Since then, July 4th has been celebrated as the birthday of the United States.

Overtime, the celebrations have been modified to include fun, games and food.

One of those being The National Hot Dog Eating Contest, by Nathans Hot Dogs.

So for Second Cup, the Sunrise Crew participated in a hot dog eating contest and guess who came out on top?

Meteorologist Max Tsaparis!

WTXL's Christine Souders could exactly stomach it.

WTXL's Malcolm Hornsby got an "A" for effort.
