TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - The Girl Scouts of the Florida Panhandle and TCC are coming together for the 5K and One Mile Run/Walk this Saturday. It's the annual “Run for the Cookies”.

The run starts at 8:30 am, at the TCC Lifetime Sports Complex on Appleyard Drive.

“We are proud to partner with Tallahassee Community College and Gulf Winds Track Club to provide this event to the community,” said Raslean M. Allen, the area council CEO. “The support of the community allows us to raise funds to provide programs and services to build girls of courage, confidence and character.”

This is the 21st year for the "Run for the Cookies". Thursday, Dr. Jeanne O'Kon and Irene Field, both with Girl Scouts of the Florida Panhandle, appeared on WTXL ABC27 Sunrise to talk about how this event benefits area youth. The largest program to benefit from the 5K is the Girl Scouts' destination travel program, covering the costs associated with the educational experiences and adventures of Girl Scouting. The girls will earn a portion of the funds needed to cover their travel expenses through service in the community.

Participants can register online at RaceIt.com, or at the early registration and packet pick-up at Capital City Runners. The entry fee for early 5K registration is $15, and includes a T-shirt and the runner’s choice of a box of Girl Scout cookies.
