TALLAHASSEE, FL -- Kicking off yesterday and lasting for a month is National Hispanic Heritage Month.
This nationwide event is focusing this year on honoring Hispanic American heroes, veterans and first responders.
On Friday's Sunrise, Chancellor Madeline Pumariega spoke on her life growing up in a Spanish-speaking home. Pumariega was the first in her family to go to college. She spoke on statistics of Hispanics attending college and how to see those numbers increase.
