Mother's Day is an ideal time to tell mother's how much they are appreciated. Yet, with so many options, it can be daunting to know where to shop, what to look for and what to give.
Amanda Gizzi of Jewelry Information Center offers five simple tips to buying a gift of fine jewelry and ensuring it is a future family heirloom. Amanda says, "When buying a jewelry gift this Mother's Day look for gifts with beauty that won't fade, are of high quality, and have sentimental value. Also be sure to shop with a reputable jeweler and get the gift insured."
For those thinking about getting mom flowers, Gizzi says look for floral pendants and earrings in every metal, diamonds or gemstones.
Mother's Day can also be a day to focus on the family. Gizzi says a gift always means more when it is personalized. "Look for gifts with birthstones, special family ties, or engraving as they will be guaranteed to stay in the family as an heirloom" says Gizzi.
Buying a quality gift helps ensure it will last. Gizzi's advice, is for jewelry, look for jewelry made of precious metals and or quality gemstones that speak to you. "Craftsmanship also is a determining factor and you should look closely at prongs and closures, as they give great clues" says Gizzi. "Quality jewelry is available in every price range."
Protect your prized possessions with jewelry insurance. Gizzi says when insuring your jewelry, be mindful that partial losses, such as chipped stones, and items that mysteriously disappear aren't often covered under typical homeowners' or renters' policies. She says a better option is a standalone policy such as Perfect Circle Jewelry Insurance from Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company.
