ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A man who was shot after police say he opened fire on officers in St. Augustine Beach has died.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office on Thursday reported that 53-year-old Cary Martin died from multiple gunshot wounds suffered in the encounter last week.

Martin's death makes two fatal shootings involving St. Johns County deputies last week.

Sheriff's spokesman Kevin Kelshaw says deputies responded as back-up to local police, who were dealing with a person making suicidal threats.

Kelshaw says the deputies opened fire after Martin appeared in the doorway of the home with a rifle and fired multiple shots.

Earlier in the week, deputies also fatally shot 28-year-old Justin Way, who they say was suicidal and armed with a knife.
