TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Construction has begun on the new homeless shelter in Tallahassee.
Leaders held a groundbreaking ceremony this morning to relocate The Shelter from its West Tennessee Street location to the new one on West Pensacola Street.
The new 36-thousand square foot building will serve up to 390 people, including women and children. That's more than the 250 men only that the current shelter location can hold. Plus, the new shelter will be open 24-hours a day, unlike the current shelter.
Construction for the new 4.5 million dollar shelter should be finished in about a year.
