TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- One local doctor is calling on the community to help his mission to give the gift of sight.

Dr. Paul Harman is an area eye doctor with MyEyeDr. For the past eight years, he's volunteered with A Doctor's Heart. It's a mission group aimed at helping those in Brazil.

Dr. Harman recently returned from another trip to the Brazil Amazon, a journey that takes a five-hour plane ride followed by a 20-hour trek by boat deep into the jungle.

He makes this trip at least once a year, sometimes with a medical team and other trips with construction supplies. In nearly a decade, the mission group has donated more than $1 million in building work.

A Doctor's Heart has treated also more than 10,000 of patients, and given out more than 2,500 pairs of glasses.

Dr. Paul Harman says they're always in need of donations. You can drop off your old glasses at 4462 Whispering Oaks Dr. in Tallahassee.
