TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - This weekend before the FSU versus Boston College football game, the community is invited to attend a tailgate fundraiser for Taylor County Deputy Robert Lundy.
It will be on Saturday, November 22, 2014 starting at 11:30 a.m. at the ToeKicker89 tailgate in Lot 6 at the corner of Pensacola Street and Varsity Drive in the grass (look for the tents). Organizers say there will be food and beverages provided by Cone Distributing. There will also be TVs to watch the game for those who do not have tickets. T-shirts to support Deputy Lundy, who will be in attendance, will be available. Donations at the tailgate will be collected for St. Judes Hospital and Deputy Lundy.
Deputy Lundy is one of the victims of the February 5, 2014 shooting at the Timberland Ford dealership in Perry, Florida. Police say one of the employees, Earl Clague Junior, rammed his truck into the front of the dealership and began shooting. Finance Director John Mahoney and General Manager Mike Cook were hit by gunfire. Deputy Lundy was there getting his vehicle serviced and without hesitation, Lundy began defending his life and the lives of those around him by firing back at Clague Junior. Deputy Lundy continues to recover but Mahoney passed away in September due to complications from pneumonia.
One of the fundraising organizers is Kelly Mahoney Rogers, daughter of John Mahoney. She and Deputy Lundy discussed this weekend's fundraiser with WTXL ABC27 anchor Abbey Maurer during the News at 6.
"We are inviting our community to join us and tailgate for a cause," said Rogers. "It's a great event for the community and way to honor my dad. As you know, Deputy Lundy gave us the most precious 7 months with my dad before his passing."
