TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)---Today is National Walk to School Dayand that's why the Florida Department of Health along with Safe Kids are making sure that parents, students and drivers have the resources to make sure that drive or walk to school is as safe as possible.
So far, 416 Florida schools are participating with eight registered in Leon County as of yesterday morning.
Mary Crew from Safe Kids Florida joined us this morning for another installment of For Your Protection to discuss tips to keep you and your child safe.
For pedestrians, always look both ways and make eye contact with drivers.
We often hear the warnings for drivers to refrain from texting but the same goes for pedestrians as cell phones and electronics can distract you as you're walking.
Crews says the best policy is to always be aware of your surroundings. For more information on Safe Kids click here.
