TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- The college football season is underway, and authorities are reminding you about pedestrian safety and patience.

Tallahassee Police Officer Dave Northway joined us on WTXL Sunrise with more tips to keep you safe as you support the Seminoles this season. Click the thumbnail to see the entire interview.

This season, police changed the traffic patterns and flows around Doak Campbell Stadium. With one game under their belt, officials say the new driving arrangement worked out well.

As a reminder, fans parking around the stadium should use Stadium Drive or Macomb Street to get to Pensacola Street.

Gaines Street and Lake Bradford Road will also have access to Doak Campbell Stadium. Also new this year, Pensacola Street will not be reversed after the game. Traffic leaving the game will use Saint Augustine Road towards Monroe Street.

Police are also urging you to expect a delay when leaving Doak. The stadium seats more than 80,000, and while fans trickle in before kick-off, everyone is pouring out at once when the game is over.

Officers remind you to drive slowly and be aware of your surrounding. People may be walking in the street, parking lot and in between cars, so be cautious.

Also, keep in mind that the officers directing traffic have the highest authority, even over posted traffic signs or rules. That means even if there's a stop sign or flashing light, if there is an officer there, you follow his or her directions.

Remember you can watch For Your Protection every Wednesday morning on WTXL Sunrise.
