TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- A week after 1 student is sexually assaulted and another a victim of battery, 1 group on the campus of Florida State University is looking to make walks across campus safer.

The weekend of March 1st, a female student reported to campus police that she was a victim of sexual battery. She told officers she was walking along Jefferson Street toward Broward Hall when she noticed a male following her. The man then ran up behind her grabbing her waist and breasts.

Just the week before another female was assaulted while escorting two males to a residence hall. Now students, like Amanda Valdespino, hope to prevent crimes like these by pairing up.

Basically what I hope the page accomplishes is that we're just coming together more. And it's definitely not the ultimate solution to the ongoing problem, but I think it's a step in a process to open up this dialogue about creating safer spaces and protection for women," said Valdespino.

So far both suspects in the first sexual assault case have been arrested. Police are still looking for information concerning the suspect in the second incident.
