Tallahassee, Fla (WTXL) - FAMU's award-winning track & field teams have a new home. The existing track has been renovated into a state-of-the-art facility.
On Thursday, Feb. 27, at 10:30 a.m., a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held to reveal and celebrate the nearly $1 million in renovations made to the Robert “Pete” Griffin Track Complex. The track complex is located on Wahnish Way.
The new features include:
New and thicker rubber track surfaces
New pole vault and high jump pits
New long and triple jump lanes
A new shot put landing area
A new discus cage
NCAA/state high school regulation striping and line markers
NCAA regulation slopes
Upgraded restrooms
Electrical panel upgrades
New sand pits
UV stabilization
New signage
New water fountains
These eco-friendly enhancements, which took a year to complete, were made to better serve the needs of FAMU athletes, aid in the recruitment of top student athletes and attract regional and national events. The updated track complex was also designed to provide a safe, modernized and fully-equipped facility for members of the community.
The first official event scheduled to be held at the renovated track is the return of the 63rd Annual FAMU Relays on March 1.
