TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- The Word of South Festival is set to bring more than 100 writers and musicians to Tallahassee during a three day event.

Word of South will be held on seven stages across Cascades Park, and most events are free.

Word of South officially begins Friday night with a show by Dawes in the Cascades Park amphitheater. Saturday and Sunday are filled with performances from a variety of artists including Tallahassee-based Erin Belieu, Diane Roberts and Grant Peeples, nationally-syndicated columnist Leonard Pitts, Jr. along with artists like John T. Edge, Beverly Crawford and George Clinton.

Grammy-winner Jason Isbell will perform in one of the festival’s two ticketed events Saturday night.

Sunday features Champagne with Sye Elaine, free champagne for the first 100 attendees to hear musician Sye Elaine Spence, writer Dexter Palmer and  the local group the Hub Chason Band, as well as see the film “A Poem is a Naked Lady,” a documentary on Leon Russell.

“I could not be more pleased with the line-up for our second year,” said Mark Mustian, Founder of Word of South Festival. “This year, we’ve worked to bring the worlds of music and literature together in unexpected ways by pairing writers with musicians for many performances. In addition to these performances, we also have an array of children’s authors and musicians, including the Story Pirates who are back for their second year.”
