TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Leon Animal Service Center)-- In the spirit of giving, the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center (ASC) is once again encouraging animal lovers to play Santa Paws by donating items through its annual Animal Angel Tree.

The Animal Angel Tree is on display in the lobby at the Animal Service Center, located at 1125 Easterwood Drive. Donations will benefit various ASC programs and needs, such canned food, leashes, collars, carriers, toys and more! All donations are tax deductible. The tree will remain on display through New Year’s Day.

The tree has been decorated with animal themed ornaments. Each ornament has a tag attached to it describing an item needed by the animal shelter. The proceeds from the purchase of the ornament will be used to purchase that item.

Some of the Animal Angel Tree items include:

Dog and Cat Spays/Neuters, $50 and $25, respectively

Dog bed for the UTOPIA dogs in prison, $10 each

Dog treats for UTOPIA & HART programs, $2

Kitten/Puppy Formula, $25 each

Dog heartworm treatment sponsor $100

Flea Prevention for one month for one animal, $10

Kong Dog Toys, $5

Last year, the Animal Angel Tree raised over $1500 toward items on the tree. This year, the ASC hopes to exceed that amount.

During the holiday season, many in our community also decide to give back to the ASC through Wish List donations. Some of the items needed this year include:

· gently used and new bath towels and blankets,

· non-clumping cat litter

· bags of dog food (20-40 lb bags) and

· used ink cartridges to recycle for cash.

Traditionally, fewer animals find homes around this time of year, and many shelters, including ours, fill to capacity. If you’re considering adding a furry friend to your family this holiday season, swing by the ASC. Dog, cat, guinea pig or ferret; young or old; brown, golden, spotted or striped, all ASC pets have a lot of love to give and look extra cute with a bow. What a present that would be under the tree!
