Community Steps Up For Shelter Dogs

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Renovations are set to begin this week at the Tallahassee Animal Service Center, and the community is helping to make it all possible.

All the kennels are getting a new ceiling with spray foam insulation that'll help with noise reduction. But before work can begin, all 80-plus dogs needed to be placed in a new home.

Shelter employees say many dogs were adopted last Friday at a special event. All the remaining dogs were able to be placed in foster homes for the rest of the week.

This weekend, the Animal Service Center is hosting the "Home Tested, Foster Approved" adoption event. You'll have the chance to talk with the foster families who have been caring for the dogs for a week. Plus, adoption fees on those dogs will be $25. The adoption event is Saturday, July 11 from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and then again Sunday, July 12 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. For more information, click here.

You can still see the adoptable animals on the shelter's Online Kennel.
