TALLAHASSEE, FL. (WTXL) -- Another COCA Connection, where we highlight arts and culture in the community. This week's edition featured the Requiem of Resistance presented by Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra.
The Requiem of Resistance was originally composed by Gisuseppe Verdi. At the Nazi concentration, Terezin in 1943, 150 Jewish prisoners premiered this piece as an act of resistance.
As a prisoner Rafael Schächter, conducted 16 performances between 1943 and 1944. The prisoners would practice the piece after their strenuous work days.
Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra will be recreating this historic performance through narration, images, and performing the Requiem in its entirety.
