TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Star Wars fans, the big day is almost here!

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens opens in just a few precious hours, and area businesses are helping you celebrate!

This "party of intergalactic proportions" features 14 local businesses that anchor the Tallahassee Arts District.

Here's how organizers describe this out of this world event: "It is a period of new beginnings. Rebels have become the resistance. The empire has become the first order. A new episode of fictional war has excited people across the galaxy. During recent battle, Resistance spies have managed to devise plans for the ultimate weapon... Pursued by sinister agents, our galactic heroes race to Tallahassee aboard their starships, custodians of the party plan that can save our people and restore freedom to the galaxy."

The event is bringing the community together and celebrate, all while showing off local businesses. Plus, it's raising money for Making Awesome, Tallahassee's nonprofit arts and technology makerspace.

The Star Wars: Episode VII neighborhood release party is Thursday, December 17 from noon until midnight throughout the Tallahassee Arts District (All Saints, Gaines Street and Railroad Square).
