TALLAHASEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- Leon County students took to the stage Saturday for the annual Big Bend Tropicana Speech Contest.
Held atFAMU's Perry Paige Auditorium, 4th through 6th graders participated in the contest, which shows youth the importance of communicating....verbally.
The coordinator of the contest says in a time, where fact to face interaction has been eliminated, the contest allows kids to focus on speaking. "The art of public speaking sometime gets lost so this allow youth and 4th and 5th grade as well as 6th grade the opportunity to organize plan and give a speech orally," said Marcus Boston.
Tropicana has sponsored the contest since 1969 providing classroom materials for teachers.
More than 2 million kids have participated in the contest state wide since its beginning.
