TALLAHASSEE, FL- Step up for Students Director of External Affairs Sara Clements joins Malcolm Hornsby on Second Cup's Back to School Week.
She talked about a $500 scholarship available for Florida kids.
Step up for Students is a non-profit organization contracted by the state, offering a $500 scholarship to help your 3rd through 5th grader with reading and literacy.
Scholarships worth $500 are available for students in grades 3rd through 5th, who scored a 1 or a 2 on the 3rd or 4th grade reading portion of the FSA exam.
English Language Learners will be given first priority.
Scholarships are deposited into an account held by Step Up For Students and can be used to pay for summer or after-school programs focused on reading, part-time tutoring, curriculum, or instructional materials.
Parents are encouraged to reach out to their local district and community organizations to see what eligible programs and services are available.
There are enough funds for just under 20,000 students statewide. Scholarships will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are gone.
