Area Nonprofit Hosting 5K for Earthquake Victims

Posted

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Here's your chance to support those touched by earthquakes around the globe from right here in Tallahassee.

The Recycle4Haiti Foundation is hosting a 5K for Earthquake Victims. Both Nepal and Haiti both faced devastating 7.0+ magnitude earthquakes that killed thousands and left many others hurt and homeless. All of the money raised from the 5K and walk will help support medical, nutritional, and educational projects abroad.

Carolyn Pompilus was raised in Haiti and still has family there. She joined us WTXL Sunrise to talk about the community's response to her cause and the details of the upcoming fundraiser. Click the thumbnail to see the interview.

The 5K is Saturday, July 11 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. It's at Railroad Square Art Park (694-4A Industrial Drive in Tallahassee). The cost to take part is $30 for adults, $10 for teens and free for kids under 12.

Proof Brewing Co. is also donating proceeds from Saturday's sales to the cause.
