TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Most Americans gain anywhere from one to five pounds every holiday season, and those extra lbs. often stay on long after the festivities.
Well, the Florida Department of Health is here to help!
The state agency is again hosting the "Maintain, Don't Gain" Holiday Challenge.
This seven-week free program is all about offering tips, tricks, and ideas to help you keep your weight where it is.
Organizers say 1,700 Floridians took part in the inaugural challenge last year. Of those involved, 67-percent kept their weight the same, and 26-percent lost at least three pounds.
Some advice includes choosing fresh fruit over candy, limiting fats, salt and sugary foods and finding fun ways to stay active, such as dancing to their favorite holiday music. Being active for at least three hours a week, and helping kids be active for at least one hour a day, also adds healthy balance to the season.
The Holiday Challenge includes weekly email newsletters, tips, mid-week challenges and healthy holiday recipes.
Maintain, Don't Gain is running now through the end of the year. For more information or to get signed up, click here.
