TALLAHASSEE, FL - In Ab-Fab Create we learned how to make Ankara Bracelets.
Denali's Afrocentric Boutique and African Fabrics Instructor Jean Olamide Oguntade demonstrated how easy it is.
• A 1 INCH LONG STRIP OF ANKARA OR AFRICAN FABRIC (MENTION, SCRAP FABRICS)
• GLUE
• AN OLD BRACELET, OR YOU CAN PURCHASE ONE OF OUR MANY BEAUTIFUL BRACELETS THAT WE SELL AT THE BOUTIQUE.
INSTRUCTIONS:
To begin the process of wrapping the bracelet with the Ankara fabric, make sure you have a nice clean surface you can work on.
Take one very long strip of Ankara fabric, approx. ½ inch or 1 inch wide, depending on the width of your bracelet.
Next, place a small dab glue to one end of your Ankara fabric and secure to the inside of the bracelet.
Now, the fun part begins with tightly wrapping layers of fabric around your bracelet again, neatly, overlapping the fabric around the bracelet, until you reach your starting point.
To secure, you will place a dab of glue on your remaining Ankara fabric and glue to the inside of the bracelet.
You now have created a beautiful Ankara bracelet, not to wear just for Black History Month; however, a beautiful, uniquely made, statement piece to wear all year round!
