CAIRO, Ga. (WTXL) - On Friday, the Cairo Syrupmakers look to extend their winning streak as they host Spalding in the first round of the Playoffs.
Despite sitting 3-3 midway through the year, the Makers turned it on late, finishing the year on a four game win streak.
Head coach Steve DeVoursney notes his team is prepared. They are itching to get going, and Cairo believes they are playing their best ball at the right time.
"We were not very good at the beginning of the year, you know when you replace 27 seniors, we only had four returning starters, it's tough to start out the gate very good," he admits. "I think we've gotten better each week, and that's all you can ask of a young, inexperienced team. You know we've had to come from behind to win some games, we've scored a lot of points, the defense has played well, special teams, so we hope to keep that momentum going into the playoffs."
Cairo's match-up against Spalding kicks off at 7:30 Friday night.
