Unemployment Drops to 4.2% in Capital Region

TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Florida DEO reports continued drop in combined unemployment rates in Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties as annual job growth rates rise rapidly in the Tallahassee metro area.

According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the Tallahassee metro area has had the fastest annual job growth rate in leisure and hospitality, above 9%, compared to all metro areas in the state in May 2016.

The DEO also reported the lowest unemployment rate in the CareerSource Capital Region was 3.7% in Wakulla County, followed by 4% in Leon and 5.8% in Gadsden County. The Tallahassee Metro Area has also seen an increase of 4,200 jobs, or 2.5%, in non-agricultural employment over the year, according to the report.
