TALLAHASSEE, FL (#WTXLDigital) – Tallahassee’s old electric facility will be lighting up once again. Adam Corey, owner of 101 Restaurant, along with the City of Tallahassee, will be restoring the 1920’s historic building in Cascades Park and turning it into a multifaceted restaurant. The Edison, named after the inventor of the light bulb Thomas Edison, will provide park patrons with many different dining options. The three story building will be a coffee shop, brew pub and restaurant, all in one.

“My goal for this restaurant is to be able to cater to the community as much as possible,” Corey said.

Along with the city, Corey has also reached out to local businesses to help him with the operation. The coffee beans served at The Edison will be from one of Tallahassee’s local coffee shops, while some of the restaurant’s beers will be provided by Proof Brewing Company, including a special “Edison” beer. The Edison will also brew some of its own beers on site.

“Cascades Park was a game-changer in Tallahassee. It is a place where community members can come together and enjoy the city,” Corey said. “I want this restaurant to compliment that.”

Corey wants dining at The Edison to not only be enjoyable, but an experience. He plans on infusing the feel of 1920’s Tallahassee within the establishment. There will be original exposed brick on the outside and inside of the building, as well as gas lanterns and fire-pits to help with the modern lighting.

“The park is already a place where the community can learn about Tallahassee’s history. I want to reincorporate the history of that era into The Edison,” Corey said.

The 8,000 square foot interior will be a fully functioning restaurant and bar. It will also have a private banquet space for catered functions. The 4,000 square foot exterior will be an outdoor bar and coffee shop. Food choices range from hotdogs to sea bass, depending on where patrons choose to dine. With The Edison being so big, the city can expect at least 100-125 new jobs to be created for the establishment.

As of now, The Edison will be the only food establishment located within Cascades Park. With permitting and engineering coming to a close, construction is said to start within the next week or two. Corey plans on The Edison opening in late October 2014.
