JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A northeast Florida man has been convicted of killing his wife's lover.
A Duval County jury found 32-year-old Jason Michael Franklin guilty on Friday of first-degree murder. He faces a mandatory life sentence at a Sept. 23 hearing.
Prosecutors say Franklin gunned down 34-year-old Edward Gonzalez in 2013 after Franklin had a heated argument with his wife and learned of the affair. The Florida Times-Union reports that Gonzalez was killed in his yard.
Franklin told police that Gonzalez had hit him with a baseball bat and that he fired the fatal shots in self-defense.
