TALLAHASSEE, FL. (WTXL) - Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum hosted the first "Google Business Town Hall" event Monday.

The event is aimed at teaching the Capital City's businesses how to get on the map. Small businesses in the community were taught the best ways to use new technologies and tools on the web to benefit their businesses. The program is being rolled out in select cities all across the United States.

Mayor Gillum says, "The more that we can get local businesses growing, thriving, means that Tallahassee is a community that is equally transitioning like many other cities in this state toward an independent economy that is not soley based off of our state government presence. We appreciate that state governments presence here, they're vital to our local community, but our local businesses are essential to our future growth and developement."

According to google, 37% of small businesses had a local listing on any search engine on the web. The company says, its data shows that people are 38% more likely to visit a small business that's listed online.

Gillum says, the city will continue to offer workshops to help small businesses to continue their growth.
