Florida has exceeded 2 million small businesses

TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- In the annual report, Small Business Profiles for the States and Territories, conducted by the Small Business Administration's Office of Advocacy, the number of small businesses in Florida has exceeded 2 million.

According to the report, the number of small businesses in Florida has reached 2,113,344 and they have employed 2,878,741 individuals. The businesses have made up "95.4 percent of Florida's exporting companies generating 68.6 percent of the state's total known export value."

These businesses represent 42.8 of the state's private workforce, according to Dr. Winslow Sargeant, Chief Counsel for Advocacy.

"Here in Tallahassee, small businesses are, without a doubt, the foundation of our economy. We have 70%-80% of our businesses are small businesses at The Chamber," James Miller, Vice President of Communications and Marketing for The Chamber of Commerce said.

According to the profile, the three industries in Florida with the most small business employment are health care and social assistance, accommodation and food services, and professional, scientific and technical services.
