ORLANDO, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott announced the appointment of of Eduardo “Eddie” Fernandez as the new Orange County Clerk of Courts.
The post had been vacant since last year when clerk, Lydia Gardner passed away. The deputy clerk, Colleen Reilly, has been serving in the position since Gardner's death.
Fernandez, 33, , is an attorney with Shutts Bowen, LLP and holds membership in the Orange County Bar Association, the Hispanic Business Initiative Fund of Florida and the Central Florida Partnership.
He received his law degree from the University of Florida.
Scott said, “Eddie’s reputation as a problem solver and respected member of the Orlando community makes him a great fit to serve the families of Orange County."
Fernandez takes office on January 27th. If he decides to run for a term, that election will be in November this year.
