WASHINGTON(AP) — A measure that strengthens the criminal justice system's response to crimes against women is to be signed into law today, ushering in a legislative victory for gay rights advocates and Native Americans. President Barack Obama will sign the extension to the Violence Against Women Act in a ceremony at the Interior Department. It gives law enforcement new tools to respond to domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.
