TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Tallahassee Community College officials say there was an "unauthorized acquisition of computer data" on their systems.
In a release to WTXL, TCC Chief of Police David Hendry says he believes the security breach occurred internally and affects approximately 3,300 individuals.
"TCC values the protection of private information, so we take this matter very seriously," said TCC Chief of Police David Hendry. "We have identified the group of individuals whose information may have been compromised, and we will immediately begin the process of contacting each one."
College officials were told of the breach by federal officials after an investigation resulted in the conviction of a Miami man who submitted false claims to the Internal Revenue Service.
Letters will be mailed to those impacted by the data breach.
