It's been two weeks and former South African President Nelson Mandela remains in critical condition at a hospital in Pretoria.
Mandela's family and doctors said that his condition took at turn for the worst.
"All I pray for as a daughter is that the transition is smooth. ... He is at peace with himself. He has given so much to the world", said his daughter Makaziwe Mandela.
Mandela's history of lung problems date back to when he spent 27 years as a prisoner on Robben Island. He was jailed for leading anti-apartheid efforts.
Apartheid was the government sanctioned system of racial segregation.
Mandiba, Mandela's tribal name, has been out of the spotlight for some time but remains popular among South Africans. He was honored last year with his picture on the newest currency note.
Along with then South African President F.W. de Klerk, Mandela was the winner of the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize. He was elected president a year later and kept a promise of serving only one term.
