TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The Miami Dolphins are getting some resistance in their effort to get tax dollars to renovate Sun Life Stadium.
A Florida House panel on Friday approved a bill (HB 165) that would guarantee $3 million a year in state money for the next 30 years to help pay for stadium upgrades.
But several legislators — including some from Miami-Dade County — voted against the bill. The panel also defeated efforts to change the bill to require Dolphins owner Stephen Ross to put up more of his money.
Ross wants to use state and local tax dollars to help pay for $400 million worth of renovations. Backers contend it will help bring back the Super Bowl to the area. The Miami Hurricanes also play at Sun Life.
