LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Over in Leon County, residents are also wondering what comes next after an EF-2 tornado devastated the Baum community.
"Never saw the storm coming," said Danielle Williams, a resident on Baum Road. "We knew there was a storm coming, but we never thought it would turn out like this."
It started off as good day for the residents in the Baum community.
"It was such a nice, clear day," Williams explained. "It rained earlier that morning, but it cleared up so nicely."
But the clear sky soon turned into rain and wind.
"You just hear this loud roar, roar, roar," said Fannie Mae Campbell, a member of the Baum community.
According to the National Weather Service, that roar was winds from an EF 2 tornado that was strong enough to uproot trees, send mailboxes off their posts, and even rip the roof from a trailer.
"I was saying 'Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Take care of me Jesus,'" said Campbell.
The tornado destroyed Fannie Mae Campbell's trailer.
"I got on that ladder and crawled out of the window," Campbell said.
Campbell sought shelter with her next-door neighbor, but moments later, the storm sent a tree crashing through his roof, too.
"Less than 2 or 3 minutes, it all happened just like that," said James Williams.
The devastation left Williams speechless.
"Everything is lost. I can't think," James said. "I can't think now."
But through all of the devastation, the small, tight-knit, community is still joining hands. Thankful that they're all still alive, the Baum Community is now coming together to pick up the pieces.
