MONTROSE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a fourth person has died after a morning pileup on a foggy Georgia interstate.
The Georgia State Patrol said Wednesday that a fourth person was found dead in the wreckage. The dead were identified as: Michael Jarome Smith of Covington; Jeff Moore of Effingham County; and Clayton and Josephine Warnock of Dublin.
Nine others were taken to a hospital, all but one of whom were treated and released.
Laurens County EMS Director Terry Cobb says at least six vehicles were still on fire when crews arrived. The state patrol says there were four separate crashes involving 27 vehicles.
Officials said poor visibility likely played a big part. One forecaster says visibility was less than a quarter-mile in some areas Wednesday morning.
