PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - A Florida Panhandle woman has been sentenced to nearly a year in jail for shoplifting a dog.

Escambia County prosecutors say 43-year-old Angela Brooks pleaded no contest Monday to retail theft. A judge then sentenced her to 11 months and 30 days in the county jail.

The Pensacola News Journal (http://goo.gl/KVqBrN ) reports that Brooks approached an employee at a Pensacola Petland last year and requested to play with a puppy. After the employee left the area, Brooks put the dog in her purse and walked out of the store with the dog.
