ATLANTA (AP) - Police say charges have been filed against a woman accused of failing to summon help after noticing her young daughter was unresponsive at an Atlanta bus station.
Authorities said Wednesday that Alexus Washington is charged with child cruelty and reckless conduct in the death of her young daughter Ty'Mia Simpson. The girl's cause of death is unclear.
Police said in a report that Washington told investigators she noticed her daughter was unresponsive at the bus station early Tuesday morning and went outside to try cooling her off. Authorities say Washington later saw that her daughter was still unresponsive and tried administering CPR.
Police say Washington told investigators that she never tried summoning help from emergency responders or going to a local hospital.
It's unclear if Washington has an attorney.
