ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta-area homeless veterans will be able to get some assistance including food, clothing and medical evaluations during the annual Stand Down for Homeless Veterans event.

The Atlanta VA Medical Center said in a news release Monday that representatives from more than 40 local, state and federal agencies will be on hand to help homeless veterans get back on their feet.

Housing and employment assistance will also be available along with a "veterans court" to aid those charged with non-violent crimes.

The event will be held at the medical center's Fort McPherson campus on Oct. 1 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Atlanta VA Medical Center Homeless Program chief April Edwards says, "It's essentially a one-stop shop to help those who put their lives on the line to serve our country."
