KIEV, Ukraine (AP) - Ukraine's police chief has promised to work with Netherlands to help find a trove of Dutch Golden Age art that was stolen from a provincial Dutch museum.
Khatia Denakoidze told reporters Thursday her office is waiting for an official request from Dutch prosecutors, adding that Ukrainian police stand ready to welcome Dutch investigators and work with them.
The Westfries Museum in the northern town of Hoorn said Monday that 24 paintings snatched in a burglary on Jan. 9, 2005, along with 70 pieces of silverware, are being offered for sale in Ukraine.
The museum claims the art trove has been linked to nationalist militia in Ukraine and alleged the case involves "Ukrainian art criminals who have contacts on the highest political levels" in the country.
