ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The chair of the board at the University of Central Florida is stepping down from his post following criticism that funds designated for operations were used for construction.
Marcos Marchena, who was chair of UCF's board, said last week he is stepping down from his leadership post but would remain on the board.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that Marchena said at a meeting with the board that oversees the state university system that he wanted to show the seriousness with which he regarded criticism about the university's misspending.
The Board of Governors last week demanded that UCF extend an independent investigation into the university's decision to use $38 million in leftover operating money on the construction of a new academic building.
Marchena says he knew nothing about the university's misspending.
