COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Some students around the country are marking the anniversary of the school massacre in Parkland, Florida, with moments of silence or somber vigils while others aim to find threads of positivity in the fabric of tragedy.
Boardman High School in northeast Ohio planned a "legacy lockdown" Thursday including an active-shooter drill, a chime ringing to honor the 17 Parkland victims, and applause for emergency responders visiting the school.
Near Washington, students advocating stricter gun control hung up 671 white T-shirts outside Bethesda Chevy Chase High School as a memorial to teenagers who died from gun violence in 2018.
Educators were remembering, too. In New York, the Buffalo Teachers Federation encouraged people to wear orange — as hunters do for safety — and to join in a moment of silence.
