ENGLEWOOD, FL. (AP) - A 77-year-old Florida man has been fired from his job as a toll booth operator after reportedly using his own money to pay a toll for a tractor trailer whom he had undercharged.

Vladislav "Sam" Samsonov had worked at the Gasparilla Island bridge toll booth in southwest Florida for almost 30 years when he was asked to scale back his hours after his bosses discovered the incident. He told WBBH-TV he refused the deal and was terminated.

The television station also reported that this wasn't the first time Samsonov's supervisors had told him not to pay drivers' charges with money from his own pocket.

A woman answering the phone at Samsonov's home said he had no comment. The Gasparilla Island Bridge Authority said they don't discuss personnel matters.
